Approaches to Slavic Linguistics (FASL 20) a success!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The department was proud to host the 20th meeting of <a href=\"http:\/\/fasl.mit.edu\/\"><strong>Formal Approaches  to Slavic Linguistics<\/strong><\/a><strong> (FASL)<\/strong>.\u00a0 The conference, which ran from May 13-15,  was a resounding success, drawing linguists from 13 countries and 3  continents to MIT.\u00a0 The presentations included invited talks by four of  MIT&#8217;s own: professors <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/linguistics\/people\/faculty\/steriade\/index.html\">Donca Steriade<\/a><\/strong><strong> <\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/linguistics\/people\/faculty\/halle\/index.html\">Morris Halle<\/a><\/strong> (who was introduced by <strong>Noam Chomsky<\/strong>), visiting  professor <strong>Sergei Tatevosov <\/strong>from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philol.msu.ru\/~otipl\/new\/main\/index.php\">Moscow State University<\/a>, and recent alum <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanities.mcmaster.ca\/~kucerov\/index.html\">Ivona Ku?erov\u00e1<\/a><\/strong> (now at McMaster University in London, Ontario).\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks  to all presenters,
