First-year student <strong>Erin Olson<\/strong> gave a tutorial on <em>Automatic Forced Alignment with Prosodylab-Aligner<\/em>. Third-year student <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/juliets\/www\/home.html\">Juliet Stanton<\/a><\/strong> gave a talk about <em>Learnability shapes typology: the case of the midpoint pathology<\/em>. Fifth-year student <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/suyeon\/www\/\">Suyeon Yun<\/a><\/strong> talked about <em>English -uh- insertion and consonant cluster splittability<\/em>. Third-year students <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mit.academia.edu\/SamZukoff\">Sam Zukoff<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mstorme.com\/cv.php\">Benjamin Storme<\/a><\/strong> presented posters entitled <em>Stress Restricts Reduplication: Stress-Reduplication Interactions in Australian and Austronesian<\/em> and <em>Closed Syllable Vowel Laxing in Continental French: a Dispersion-Theoretic Account<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Among the presenters were also some MIT alumni. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/files.nyu.edu\/geg4\/public\/site\/about.html\">Gillian Gallagher<\/a><\/strong> &#8216;10 (NYU) was one of the three invited speakers. She gave a talk entitled <em>Asymmetries in the representation of categorical phonotactics<\/em>. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yoonjungkang.com\/\">Yoonjung Kang<\/a><\/strong> &#8216;00 (University of Toronto Scarborough) talked about <em>French loanwords in Vietnamese: the role of input language phonotactics and contrast in loanword adaptation<\/em> (paper co-authored by Andrea H\u00f2a Ph?m from the University of Florida and Benjamin Storme).  <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/jikatz\/www\/\">Jonah Katz<\/a><\/strong> &#8216;10 (West Virginia University) presented a poster about <em>Continuity lenition<\/em>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Phonology 2014 was held at MIT over the week end.
